Cyber Saathi, is an initiative focusing on cyber safety on digital spaces with special focus on being a reliable source of information and knowledge pertaining to cyber laws and remedies. Cyber Saathi provides content relevant to all – from individuals, corporate / businesses and Government Authorities. It is intended to be a reliable resource on cyber laws and remedies for victims in easily understandable and relatable formats. Cyber Saathi will be focusing on neutral research and publications intended to guide and create awareness of cyber laws and legal aspects of emerging technologies to enable a stronger Digital India. 

Cyber Saathi is the brainchild of N. S. Nappinai, Advocate Supreme Court and a renowned cyber laws expert, who brings her expertise in this field and her understanding of the challenges faced by victims, particularly women and child victims. Ms. Nappinai has formulated this site, to share her extensive knowledge gained over years of handling cybercrime cases (corporate cybercrimes as well as those against individuals) and also from her training of law enforcement and judiciary amongst others.

Cyber Saathi disseminates information and knowledge on: cybercrimes and remedies thereunder, laws pertaining to emerging technologies including Personal Data Protection; Non – Personal Data Protection including of Community Data; Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies; Artificial Intelligence; Automation & Robotics; and also on Social Media and Intermediary Liabilities; Information Technology Act, 2000 and proposed amendments to the same; Electronic Evidence and its future for India; Jurisdiction in Cyber laws; and other seminal works on evolving issues.

Cyber Saathi empowers through knowledge and encourages responsible technology and Respondent usage of digital spaces to ensure, safe and secure digital spaces, with special focus on child and women safety online. Its intent is to provide non – judgmental and non-preachy information with clear focus on victim rights and empowerment through knowledge of remedies and the process to avail them. Cyber Saathi also understands the need to create awareness to act as deterrent against commission of crimes and addresses this need, which till date remains unaddressed.

Cyber Saathi  initiatives include dissemination of online knowledge resources and also through offline awareness programs . Its intent is to revolutionize the concept of cyber safety through peer mentoring and self – help processes at initial stages and to provide easy to follow guidance on next steps to victims. Through its revolutionary process, Cyber Saathi intends to lend courage to victims to seek remedies available to them in law and to also discourage Criminal actions through awareness of remedies and punishments in law. 

Cyber Saathi is unique, as it not only addresses safety from the victim’s perspectives but also provides guidance against commission of crimes. It highlights what actions amount to Criminal offences and the punishments therefor and thereby deters persons from undertaking such Criminal activities. The resources provided online and offline are intended to protect against children in particular becoming perpetrators of cybercrimes.

Cyber Saathi also empowers a stronger Digital India, which requires digital literacy for ensuring safety and security. It is intended to function as a think tank and contribute towards policy and law-making pertaining to cyber laws in India

Cyber Saathi is an authentic online resource on cybercrime laws of India. It provides easy to follow guidance to victims and law enforcement authorities on applicable laws to evolving cybercrime trends. It busts myths and mistakes in the application of cybercrime provisions and provides guidance on emerging legal trends through laws and precedents.

Cyber Saathi also provides guidance in policy making through research and publication of whitepapers. It supports the evolution of cyberlaws in India beyond cybercrimes. It provides a platform for analytical papers and publications on topics impacting the digital domain including on Data Protection; Artificial Intelligence; Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies; Social Media Laws; Intermediary Liability; and Electronic Evidence.

Ms. N.S. Nappinai

N. S. Nappinai, a senior Advocate practising before the Supreme Court of India & founder of Cyber Saathi™, with over 32 years of experience, appears in cases pertaining to Constitutional, Criminal, IPR and Cyber laws. She appeared for a State Government in a case on data protection during pandemic lockdown. She has led transactions for private equity and debt structuring across multiple jurisdictions. Nappinai founded Cyber Saathi, a non – profit organisation focussing on cyber laws and cyber safety.

An alumna of Stanford CDDRL (Democracy & Rule of Law) (2019), Chevening – Cyber UK (2016) and IVLP – IPR USA (2005), Nappinai trains judges, police, Armed forces and intelligence agencies at National & State Judicial / Police Academies and has addressed sessions at National and International Conferences. She has given an inspirational Tedx talk on “Becoming Fearless & Showing Up”.

Nappinai has presented and participated in the deliberations of the UNODC Ad Hoc Committee on Trans-border crimes on its proposed soft law. She spearheads the Regional Partner – Asia of the UNODC NGO Unit role of Cyber Saathi.

Nappinai presented before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT on Securing Citizen Rights Online (2021) on Electronic Evidence before Criminal Reforms Committee (2021); Lok Sabha Parliamentary Committee on Women Empowerment, on Cyber Safety online (2020) & Government Committees, including the Prajwala Committee constituted by Supreme Court of India; on Cryptocurrencies & Blockchain; Amendments to Information Technology Act, 2000 & on Electronic Evidence. She presented before the National Security Council Secretariat on India’s proposed National Cyber Security Policy 2020 – 2025. Nappinai contributed as Advisor to I4C, Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI, in formulation of the three new criminal major acts (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023).

A prolific writer, Nappinai oft contributes on leading publications and has authored the seminal book on cyberlaws titled “Technology Laws Decoded”. She contributed a Chapter on Social media in Nani Palkivala’s Festschrift and on Framing an AI policy in the book AI Rising. Her latest book ‘CSassy Tales – Cybercrime Stories & The Law’, Oakbridge Publications (2022) using a unique story telling technique, is well received.

She was Amicus Curiae before Supreme Court in Prajwala vs. Union of India on protecting women and children online. She was Advisor – Tamil Nadu eGovernance Agency; Maharashtra Cyber police and was a Senior Panel Advocate – Central & Western Railways, Government of India. She was appointed, as Standing Counsel for Election Commission.
